Trier (French: Trèves, Luxembourgish: Tréier; Latin: Augusta Treverorum; the Latin adjective associated with Trier is Treverensis) is a city in Germany on the banks of the Moselle River. It is the oldest city in Germany, founded in or before 16 BCE.

Bear with me. I’ve just done Roma and back in a weekend, including a very late night last night. Read this, and then with grace please just diagnose, “Overtired”…
Today I’m cream crackered. And my efforts in trying to be Italian have reached a little hurdle. I’ve spent my weekend around Italians, who are lovely, but the conversation I am able to make with them is on a par with the conversation we made with my Grandma Maud in the last years of visiting her in an old peoples home.
I like Italian people. I like how they look, how they sound, how they are with each other. This weekend was really lovely, (will fill you in more when I’m less jaded from the journey), but I really felt like an outsider. The Italian women were poised, elegant, dark and slim. I was sweaty, burnt, and considerably rounder, (what is the pizza doing to me that it doesn’t to them??)
Right now I’d like some English people that I can chat with more content about stuff that isn’t a comparison of our countries’ climates, (I always come off worse). And I’d also like my running shoes. I’m feeling increasingly lumpy and uncooth around all of these mediterrainian lovelies. At least by the time I’m back in England I’ll have my tan to compensate for the twenty pounds of mozarella I’ll be coming back with, (sadly not in my luggage).
I think I’m also feeling a bit single, (all the glamourous Italian couples, you see), and a bit unsettled with a little sense of unanchored-ness as I plan my return.
In regards to my reading list, I finished Her Fearful Symmetry, by Audrey Niffenegger. Quite different to The Time Traveller’s Wife. As unexpected a storyline but definitely darker content. Would I recommend it? It’s definitely a good gripping read, but it has left me feeling unnerved. I think all in all I need a day of vegging in the sun. Which is handy, as last time I checked that’s what Italy had in store for me.
Oh, and I’m learning increasingly that Italian people like to talk about private parts A LOT. Even more than English teenage boys.

“This is out rocket ship. Where are we going?”
“To the moon.”
“Look! Aliens! They run the bologna business on earth.”
“Really?”
“Okay, we’re here. We’re on the moon.”
And then she kissed me.
Can you say “best first kiss ever”?
